On 5 September 2021 art collective World Dirt Association held the performance “Soilstory: Welcoming” at the Suzu Theatre Museum. This live event linked soil stories in Suzu, Singapore and France in both real and virtual spaces simultaneously based on a contemporary reconstruction of the traditional domestic agricultural ritual known as “Ae no Koto” in Oku Noto. This opening performance “welcomes” the spirits into the exhibition hall so they may reside throughout the triennial period, followed by the “return” of the spirits to water, wind and fire in the closing performance.
